This project is something I always wanted to make. This is a replica of the box Gizmo is brought home from china town in. I have found that there are not a lot of pictures available on this box so I mainly went on a few good screen captures I could get from watching the first film. I think I got pretty close. It's scale was based on visual interpretations of watching the movie.
This is my Gizmo Oriental Box Project
After reviewing all of my screen captures and a few photo's from my movie books, I headed to the home center to find materials that would closley match the box in the film. I purchsed what I needed and began cutting........
In trying to imitate the oriental design for the box walls, I used file folders due to their thick cardboard backing and ease of cutting out the shapes. I then tried to match the paint scheme.
Once the inner side walls are painted to match the photo's, I assemble the wall frames, making sure all of my angles are cut in before hand. A little glue, nails, and staples do the trick.
Once the major portion of the lower box has been assebled, I begin in on the staining. I use a Dark Walnut to match the photo's of the film box. the original seemed really dark. Once two coats have been applied, I will start on the lid.
