Building a Studio Scaled K.I.T.T. Model Replica
How did the show Knight Rider achieved some of those amazing car stunts on a limited budget? Easy, they used models. 1/8th scaled models to be exact. This section of my site will take you through my step by step construction of one of these amazing models. A complete look at the exterior and interior of KITT.

What was needed to begin this project........
First thing required to make this replica, was aquiring a 1/8th scaled Iroc Camaro model kit. This was the same kit the studio's used when building their miniature Kitt's. Luckily this Camaro model kit was recently rereleased.

Rear Modifications T-Top Modifications
Now the main body modifications begin. The Camaro spoiler must be shaved off and filled in as well as the side tail lights. The roof is originally a hard top so t-tops are carved in to simulate this option. The rear bumper must also be cut out and then recessed for the new KNIGHT license plate and frame.

Sculpting, Molding, and Casting New parts...
Now that the body has been reworked, it comes time to create all the new parts to make this Chevy look like the Knight Rider Trans Am. A new hood and nose combo, dash board, steering wheel, function pods, and overhead consoles are sculpted in clay, molded in silicone, and cast in resin and fiber glass. The PMD seats are also custom made. Reworking the Camaro seats.

Begining to Convert the Camaro interior
Now, taking the interior that came with the kit, I begin to modify it to look more like the show car did. I fill in the back seat design and resculpt in the vertical lines on the seat backs and bottoms. I then coat the part in primer and paint a close colored tan. Once the paint has dried, I use the two part flocking system to simulate carpeting and door panels. Once completed, I have a realistic interior that looks great, even under close viewings........

Detail Shot
Here is a good look at the new back seats. Sculpted to match the new front PMD seats. Blank patches are left on the bottom floorboards so the seats can be siliconed in later. Arm rests, door panels and consoles are added at this point. The flocking is colored differently for the seats and door panels to show seperation in contrast. The carpet and panels are very soft to the touch,......
